Socials & Events

Where the classes pay off

Learning the steps is half of HBDA. The other half is dancing them with friends. Here’s the kind of dancing that happens outside of class, year after year.

Twice a month

Oahu social dance

On the first and third Saturdays of each month, HBDA members from across Oahu get together for an evening of social dancing. DJs play everything we teach, members ask newcomers to dance, and nobody sits out for long. Free for current students, $10 for guests, paid at the door. Ask your chapter for the current location and time.

Every chapter

Chapter socials and potlucks

Each chapter hosts its own parties through the year: end-of-quarter socials, potlucks, birthday celebrations and practice nights. They’re the easiest way to get to know the people you dance with.

Every year

Holiday dances and anniversary balls

HBDA’s big nights out: the annual holiday dance, themed balls and chapter anniversary dinner-dances with live music, a full floor and everyone in their best. Tickets are usually sold through chapter officers.

Good to know

Before you come

  • Guests are welcome. Students bring friends and family all the time. Non-students pay a small admission at the door.
  • Dress neatly. No tank tops, shorts or rubber slippers. Smooth-soled shoes make dancing easier.
  • You’ll get asked to dance. That’s the HBDA way. Say yes.
  • Dates change, this page doesn’t. For what’s coming up, ask your chapter officers or call one of the numbers below.
